The first European Atelier for Young Festival Managers was a great success!
From May 15 until May 21, 2006, 33 young participants from 20 different countries came together in the historical city of Görlitz, on the German-Polish border, for an intense and very productive week of workshops, lectures, and cultural events. Under the generous and inspiring guidance of renowned festival managers, numerous established festival formats were discussed and new ideas explored and developed. Workshop leaders and presenters included Rose Fenton (co-founder of LIFT – London International Theatre Festival), Nele Hertling (Director of the “Berlin Artist Program” of the DAAD), Gerard Mortier (Director of the Opéra National de Paris), Bernard Faivre d'Arcier (former Director of the Festival d'Avignon), Brian McMaster (Director of Edinburgh International Festival), Gavin Henderson (Principal of Trinity College of Music in London), Tom Stromberg (, theatre Director, Director EXPO Hannover 2000 art program), Steve Austen (Felix Meritis Foundation), Nevenka Koprivsek (Director of Bunker Productions in Ljubljana), and Tzvetelina Iossifova (Co-Director of Red House for Culture and Debate in Sofia). Many seeds were planted for new networks and various exciting international exchanges and long-term collaborations. Read more about the European Atelier on the page dedicated to this event.
