The Istanbul Music Festival is one of the highlights of Istanbul's cultural life. The festival presents the finest examples of artistic creativity in the fields of music (orchestral concerts, chamber music, recitals and traditional music), classical ballet, contemporary dance, and opera. It was founded in 1973 and has been a member of the European Festivals Association (EFA) since 1977. The forty-fourth edition took place in June 2016.
